Physical pain along with anxiety? No Way…. I mean how could they be connected. What does the brain have to do with central nervous system or nerves? I mean after all that is what controls pain throughout the body right?

OH YEAH – that’s right the brain controls the whole entire central nervous system. Which in turn makes you feel good and bad and it controls every nevere that runs through your body. So wait a minute – are you telling me that the same thing that controls your nerves also controls your anxiety – wow what a coincidence.

Of course I am being sarcastic but it is the hardest peice of the puzzle for people to put together. The brain, central nervouse system is a very complex thing and you have no idea how pwerful it can be and the aches and pains that it can bring through out your body! Listen to your body? OK but it is your mind doing to the talking. Your mind is trying to tell you that your way of processing things is not working. Don’t get better at manipulating other people to get your way. Quit getting them to do your dirty work. you have a problem now understand how it all goes together and work to resolve it!

Herbal Remedies for Anxiety

Many people suffer from anxiety disorders.  While it is normal to experience some anxiousness, when anxiety starts to affect your everyday life it may be due to a disorder.  Some common symptoms are feeling tense, being on edge, irritability, inability to concentrate, impatience, and restlessness.  When these symptoms occur regularly for no apparent reason it may affect your everyday life.

There are prescription drugs available to treat anxiety, but many people prefer to go a more natural route.  Sometimes things such as acupuncture, massage therapy and relaxation techniques can be helpful.  There are also herbal remedies may help when dealing with anxiety.

Some of the more common anxiety herbal remedies are:

Valerian- This herb has traditionally been used to treat insomnia, but may be helpful when treating anxiety as well.  It is available in a tea form as well as capsules.

Kava-  Kava is native to Polynesia.  It has shown to have anti-anxiety characteristics.  One potential side effect however is liver damage.  In fact, the FDA has issued an advisory to consumers about supplements containing kava and potential liver damage.

Passionflower- The herb passionflower works similarly to benzodiazepine drugs that are often prescribed for anxiety.

GABA- Gamma- Aminobutyric Acid- This amino acid is known to have a role in the physiology of anxiety.  Certain prescription drugs work by affecting the GABA receptors found in the brain.  However, it is not certain how much affect GABA supplements have on the brain.

Aromatherapy- Essential oils can be added to diffusers, massage oils and bath to decrease anxiety and promote relaxation.  Lavender is used most often.  Some others that are also helpful are bergamot, geranium, cypress, rose, ylang-ylang, and sandalwood.

Before beginning any new medication or herbal remedy your doctor should be consulted.  Anxiety disorders should not be taken lightly.  Some herbal remedies may have adverse affects with other medications or conditions.

What is the biggest problem with telling people that their symptoms are from anxiety or stress? SIMPLE – they don’t believe you. It is easier for them to believe that these symptoms are from a dreaded disease lke MS, Fibromylagia, Lupus and much more. After all the symptoms are very similar. Anxiety and stress can cause stomach upset, it can cause your muscles to ripple, flex and be tense on their own. Anxiety when left untreated can escalate to hundreds of symptoms that can be present together in groups or they can be presented one at a time.

The problem that people have is that they don’t understand that their is very distinct physical connection between the mind and the body. This does not make our body weak or inefficient. These symptoms were designed as part of the fight or flight syndrome. Fight or flight was designed to save our life in very specific situations. Hormones, similar to steriods are released inside our body to make us stronger, faster, fleeter and even split second quick with our thoughts. There is a downside. The downside is that if we stay in the stress or highly intense state then these hormones build up in the body and actuall become somewhat toxic to us. The result is a body in a stress reflex, that never calms down and guess what – those same hormones that were so incredible for saving our life are now causing us to have pretty bad aches and pains, and they are causing us to think in even more negative ways.

Learn more about how you can get out of this stress or anxiety reflex and get back to normal! Visit our main page at www.easternanxietyandstress.com.

Symptoms of stress and anxiety can include:

pain in hands, pain in feet, pain in the muscles anywhere on the body, tingling in hands, fingers, feet, arms, as well as scalp tingling, scalp itching, skin ithcing all over the body and especially in the middle of the back. For men there can be terrible prostate pain that is often diagnosed as prostatitis but there is no infection. For women anxiety and stress can cause symptoms of cystitis but there is no infection. These are just a few of the symptoms of stress or anxiety that manifest into physical symptoms all over the body.

Anxiety Herbal Remedy

A little bit of anxiousness is normal, but when a person feels anxious persistently and without reason it may be due to an anxiety disorder.   Some symptoms of an anxiety disorder are restlessness, felling tense or on edge, impatience, irritability, and lack of concentration.   Anxiety can have physical implications as well such as headaches, muscle tension, jaw pain, insomnia, fatigue, chest tightness, indigestion, dry mouth and excessive sweat production.

There are some natural remedies that can help reduce anxiety symptoms.  Some people choose massage therapy, acupuncture and relaxation techniques such as yoga.  There are herbal remedies that are used to treat people with anxiety.  Some of the more popular ones are:

Passionflower-   This herb has shown some promise in treating anxiety.  It works similarly to benzodiazepine drugs.

Valerian-  The herb valerian is often used to treat insomnia, but may also be used to treat mild anxiety.  It can be taken in capsule or tea form.

Kava- The herb kava is found naturally in Polynesia.  It has been found to have anti-anxiety attributes.  However, the FDA has issued an advisory to consumers about the potential risk of liver damage from supplements containing kava.

Gamma-Aminobutyric Acid (GABA)-  This amino acid is known for its role in the physiology of anxiety.  Some prescription anti-anxiety drugs work by affecting GABA receptors in the brain.  Adequate testing has not been done to determine the effectiveness of orally ingested GABA supplements however.

Aromatherapy- Essential oils can be put in baths, infusers, and massage oils to relax and reduce anxiety.  Some of the best essential oils to reduce tension are bergamot, geranium, cypress, lavender, neroli, rose, sandalwood, and ylang-ylang.  Lavender is used the most in relaxation blends.

Anxiety disorders should be taken seriously.  It is important to see your doctor before starting any new medications including natural herbal remedies.  Some herbal remedies may have adverse side affects or reactions when mixed with other medications or conditions.
